Spore Initiative warmly welcomes Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS) and its founder Gigo Alampay for Shaping the System: Behind the Scenes of Cultural Work - a conversation series that examines the often unseen labor, negotiations, and infrastructural shifts behind exhibitions and institutions.
The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS) is a non-profit organization based in the Philippines whose work unfolds within the intersection of art, storytelling, and social impact. In close collaboration with artists and writers, CANVAS develops and distributes public art and cultural tools such as illustrated books for children, exploring themes of Philippine identity, culture and environmentalism.
Their work extends into a comprehensive public program, including book donation campaigns, artistic competitions, which are designed to promote independent reading and strengthen the accessibility of reading within local communities. By introducing children to contemporary Filipino art and literature, CANVAS not only carves a path for a lifelong love of reading but ignites an empowering journey of creative thinking and storytelling.
The evening will begin with a presentation of CANVAS’ work by Alampay followed by a conversation and Q&A with Spore.
