The zine Gegen Leerstellen – Schwarze Frauen im Widerstand was created through a student collaboration at Humboldt University in Berlin. In this event, the zine will be presented. It addresses the gaps that emerge from the dominance of white perspectives in historiography and cultures of memory. It shows how the experiences and forms of resistance of black women have been rendered invisible within these narratives or reduced to passive roles.
The presentation of the zine approaches to engage with the consequences of these gaps in the present. At the center is the question of how they continue to shape our knowledge, our perception and our social relations today. Selected contents will highlight how these structures appear in everyday life and what significance different forms of resistance take on in this context. In this way, the event makes marginalized perspectives accessible and invites all interested parties to continue the discussion on cultures of memory and the present.
The event will be run by Rose Daniela Amakye and is open to everyone interested in the topics of culture of remembrance, black diaspora and resistance. A basic understanding of concepts such as racism or discrimination can be helpful, but it is not a requirement. Questions can always be raised and addressed together.
