The ESJ Learning Circle is a regular gathering to practice and learn together in connection with social change—recognising that transformation requires integrating the body as both a site of oppression and a source of resistance and change. It’s not a workshop, but a participatory space in which we center the collective wisdom of a group, keeping it a shared responsibility to care for the circle. In the gatherings, we work around a specific topic for several sessions by sharing somatic/embodied practices from the ESJ framework and beyond, questions and resources. The circle moves between open and closed phases: some gatherings function as open entry points for new participants and shared exchange, while others remain closed, allowing those involved to build trust and deepen collective work. It’s a space for learning, experimenting, and failing—working across difference with care, playfulness, and a commitment to collective liberation and relational transformation.

The Embodied Social Justice Learning Circle exists since November 2024. It was initiated by Lo Höckner—a white, non-binary somatic practitioner and choreographer who engages in different forms of activism—and became a participatory space with shared responsibilities and care for the gatherings. The Circle grew out of a wish to build frameworks and support systems together that address what suppresses us and to resource through connection.
