On 2 May 2026, Music For Identity gUG invites you to an evening exploring Kurdish music education between past, present, and future across Kurdistan and the diaspora, hosted at Spore Initiative in Berlin.
The event brings together musicians, educators, and cultural practitioners to reflect on traditions, current initiatives, and the challenges shaping the field today. It highlights how Kurdish music has been passed on across generations and how it continues to evolve in different contexts.
The program begins at 5.00 pm with a welcome and live music performance.
Opening performance: Jina Band
Special performance: Hêja Netirk
At 5.30 pm, a panel discussion moderated by Alan Ibrahim features Mevan Younes and Elham Hamedi in addition to recorded interviews by academics who share insights from their artistic and educational work.
At 6.30 pm, the program continues with a a break and music performance by Maviş Güneşer.
At 7.00 pm, Alan Ibrahim, Founder and Director of Music For Identity, presents the organization’s current and upcoming projects, followed by a contribution from Günay Darici, Managing Director of Yekmal Akademie and Yekmal e. V.
The evening offers space for exchange, reflection, and connection around the future of Kurdish music education.
