When Cyclone Dean swept through Martinique, it unearthed more than just soil—it revealed a long-buried cemetery for the enslaved.
In the wake of this discovery, a local psychiatric hospital reimagined the site as a space for a unique form of healing. Lazar’s film traces the delicate threads between land, memory, and care. It weaves together the tending of bodies, the enduring footprint of colonialism, and the quiet wisdom of plants that have persisted through centuries of erasure. Exploring what is visible and what remains hidden, the film invites us to reflect on a landscape marked by colonial history—where fragments of the past still speak, if we are willing to listen.
A post-screening discussion with the filmmaker Florence Lazar will follow to explore the film’s creation, images and themes as well as their ongoing relevance today.
