The kitchen and the field as places of resistance

Colectivo Suumil Móokt’aan, a partner organization of Spore, has established a Solar Maya - a collective learning space for the community in the village of Sinanché in Yucatán. They see the knowledge of the traditional cultivation methods of the Milpa, the keeping of native bees, the use of medicinal herbs, methods for conserving water and the passing on of traditional Mayan seeds and recipes as a form of defense of the territory against megaprojects and exploitation. 

Last year, Valiana Aguilar and Ángel Kú were guests at Spore and gave workshops on soil preparation and the defense of the territory. This year, they are continuing the exchange with workshops on the kitchen as a political space and the life of the soil.
