In this workshop, we will work with natural dyes derived from plants. We’ll gather the plants from the Spore Garden and the dye plant bed at Tempelhofer Feld together, including woad and madder root. We’ll learn how water, heat, time, and various additives create different shades of color.
We will also explore sustainable, plant-based dyeing processes and a practical approach to using plants and materials sustainably.
The workshop consists of several hands-on steps, including collecting and preparing the plants, soaking and boiling the dye baths, and preparing and dyeing fabrics. Participants can also experiment with using the dyes they’ve made for drawing and painting.
Working with natural dyes fosters conscious engagement with plants, materials, and natural processes. This workshop invites you to experiment with dyes, plants, and fabrics hands-on and gain experience with natural pigments.
Hanaa El Degham, a visual artist who works with natural pigments and self-developed dyeing processes, will lead the workshop.
The workshop is open to adults with or without prior experience.
Advance registration is required for both dates. Space is limited. You will receive a registration confirmation four days before the event.
