Connecting Threads: Building Community through Vyshyvanka

Майстрині вишивки з України навчають учасниць та учасників технікам та візерункам вишиванки — традиційного вишитого одягу України, що відображає колективну спадщину її народу: почуття спільноти, ідентичності та приналежності.

Багатокомпонентна програма розпочинається з публічного показу фільму «Спадщина нації» (2019) режисера Олександра Ткачука за сценарієм Лесі Воронюк. Цей вечір відкритий для всіх і слугує презентацією проєкту.

Вісім майстер-класів, що відбудуться згодом, призначені для української громади, яка мешкає в Берліні та Бранденбурзі, і стануть місцем, де можна налагодити зв’язок зі своєю спадщиною та один з одним. Під час майстер-класів учасниці та учасники вивчають різні регіональні варіації вишивки та спілкуються, вишиваючи. Дехто приносить вироби, зроблені їхніми бабусями. Інші приходять, щоб навчитися чомусь, чого ніколи не мали нагоди навчитися вдома. Майстер-класи дають простір для історій, спогадів та переживань, сформованих сучасністю, міграцією та війною. Обмін знаннями відбувається у повільному темпі, протягом годин спільної праці над створенням колективних творів мистецтва.

Так само, як різноманітні регіональні візерунки, стібки та мотиви вишиванки, так само різноманітні й історії української громади, що мешкає в Берліні та його околицях. Вишивка дає змогу колективно осмислити особисті історії через практику, що створюється власноруч. Стібки стають частиною ширшої соціальної тканини, яка зберігає знання про вишиванку та забезпечує їх передачу майбутнім поколінням, водночас створюючи можливості для обміну в громаді.

«Нитки, що єднають нас: побудова спільноти через вишиванку» — це інтерактивний проєкт, організований кафедрою міжкультурних студій Університету B-TU Котбус-Зенфтенберг у співпраці з ініціативою Spore.

Усі заходи відбуватимуться українською, англійською та німецькою мовами.

Connecting Threads: Building Community through Vyshyvanka is an open space for Ukrainians living in Germany to embroider, exchange and foster collective resilience in the face of displacement. Master embroiderers from Ukraine teach participants the stitches and patterns of the vyshyvanka, the traditional embroidered garment of Ukraine that reflects the collective heritage of its people: the sense of community, identity, and belonging. 

The multi-part program opens with a public screening of the documentary Heritage of the Nation / Спадок нації (2019) directed by Oleksandr Tkachuk and written by Lesia Voroniuk.

This evening is open to everyone and introduces the project. The eight workshops that follow are intended for the Ukrainian community living in Berlin and Brandenburg as a place to connect with their heritage and each other. In the workshops, people learn different regional variations of the needlework and talk while they stitch. Some bring pieces their grandmothers made. Others come to learn something they never had the chance to learn at home. The workshops make room for stories, memories, and experiences shaped by the contemporary moment, migration, and war. Knowledge is exchanged through slowness, across hours of shared work toward the creation of collective artworks.  

Just as the regional patterns, stitches and motifs of the vyshyvanka are diverse, so too are the stories of the Ukrainian community living in and around Berlin. The needlework provides a means of collectively reflecting on personal stories through practices that are held in the hands. The stitches become part of a wider social fabric that safeguards the knowledge of the vyshyvanka and its transmission for future generations, while also creating opportunities for community exchange. Connecting Threads: Building Community through Vyshyvanka is a participatory project organized by the Chair of Intercultural Studies at B-TU Cottbus-Senftenberg in cooperation with Spore Initiative.

All activities will take place in Ukrainian, English and German.
