On February 21st, the “Palestine is Still Animated” series joins with Palinale Festival for a special screening of animated short films from Palestine.
In cooperation with the Animation Community for Palestine (AC4PAL), this event is part of a Berlin series showcasing animated short films by Palestinian filmmakers, or otherwise centering Palestine, including several shorts from Haneen Koraz’s (@animator_haneen) community project in Gaza.
Curated by Palestinian comrades, @ac4pal, and local animation filmmakers, the short films are a showcase of Palestinian livelihood and an invaluable archive of displacement. For this edition, we will explore the themes of dreaming while grieving. Fantasy, escape, wishing, but also mourning, are central to the themes explored in these works.
The event is for ages 12+, with possible animated depictions of hunger, war, destruction, or dismemberment.
The screening will include a live Q&A with Haneen Koraz from Deir al-Balah, and a panel discussion. This event is a fundraiser, and all donations will go toward Haneen's animation workshops for children and women in the Gaza strip. For more information on Haneen’s project, please check out the @ac4pal Instagram page.
