Mãos à Terra is a feature-length Brazilian documentary that tells the story of the Feira dos Agricultores Ecologistas in Porto Alegre, focusing on how this ecological farmers’ market emerged from the convergence of different movements and initiatives in both rural and urban Brazil.
The film looks back at the people, organizations, and social movements that came together around ecological agriculture, alternative food systems, and new kinds of relationships between farmers and urban communities. Through archival material, interviews, and contemporary footage, it traces how a collective project grew over several decades, connecting ecological farmers with consumers, environmentalists, activists, and other actors.

By looking at this history, Mãos à Terra raises questions about how social and ecological change takes shape over time: through collective organizing, encounters between different forms of knowledge, and the creation of spaces where rural and urban communities can work together.

After the screening at Spore, director Sérgio Guidoux Kalil joins us for a conversation with Chana de Moura about the history the film portrays and how it connects to current questions around agroecology, food systems, territory, collective action, and ecosocial justice.

The event is for anyone interested in documentary cinema, agroecology, food and ecological movements, urban-rural relationships, social movements, and collective ecological action. It is also a chance to connect experiences from Brazil with the work and perspectives of audiences and initiatives in Berlin.
