This event is part of the "Gaza Biennale — Berlin Pavilion" – Series.
The Gaza Biennale is traveling around the world carried by networks of solidarity, producing Pavilions, or أَجْنِحَة (wings), as it expands in the form of a self-organized web of relations gathered to amplify Palestinian voices where dominant frameworks attempt to silence them.
In the opening week of its Berlin Pavilion, a two-part event at Spore Initiative will examine the Biennale within broader histories of international solidarity as they have generated movements, itinerant infrastructures, and networks connecting the world via Palestine.
On November 25, the co-founders of the Gaza Biennale, Tasneem Shatat and Ghanem El Den joining from Gaza, and Andreas Ibrahim (Forbidden Museum) joining from the West Bank—will be in conversation with curator and art historian Angela Harutyunyan. Together, they will reflect on the project’s mobilizing force and on what it means to weave a biennale solely from relationships. The evening will conclude a collective reading from Shatat’s book in Arabic, English, and German.
On December 10, Rasha Salti, Kristine Khouri, and Hatem Imam will present their research for The Past Disquiet, expanding the discussion toward the intertwined histories of artistic archives and exhibitions that emerged from anti-colonial and liberation movements. They will be joined by Pablo Abufom (Santiago de Chile), who will speak about the Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende as well as Senka Ibrišimbegović, the director of the Ars Aevi Museum in Sarajevo as two more instances of art mobilizing international solidarity and shaping institutional formations. The panel will be moderated by cultural organizer Fadi Abdelnour.
