This exhibition was grounded in a two-year collaboration between Spore Initiative and Permactivie, a Martinique-based association that weaves together permaculture and artistic practice through the values of koudmen – mutual aid, earth care, and collective abundance. How the Soil Remembers grew out of Welto and the Sacred Bush, a project rooted in the sophisticated garden ecologies of Martinique and their insistence on communal knowledge, care, and endurance.

Inspired by elements found in the exhibition hall, this participatory event, led by João Eduardo Albertini, invites you to trace your own connections to soil, memory and practices of care. Each activity is based on a particular part of How The Soil Remembers, leading us on a journey through memory, ecology, and different knowledges.

Through simple and open prompts, we’ll draw, map and respond together – sitting with the stories, collective practices and collaborations held in the installation as well as exploring the Spore garden and its blossoming spring life.

Open to all ages, this intergenerational gathering weaves in the values, perspectives and rhythms of the pedagogical works of Spore, and welcomes you to stay to take part in sharing a closing moment.
