In Germany, the two-state solution continues to be invoked like a mantra as the key to peace in the so-called "Middle East conflict." Yet reality renders these declarations nothing more than lip service: Israeli governments of various political stripes - from liberal to far-right, including openly fascist coalition partners - have been relentlessly pursuing illegal land grabs and the mass displacement of Palestinians for decades.
There is no longer any contiguous territory left for a viable Palestinian state. At the same time, the two-state paradigm ignores the fate of millions of Palestinian refugees who continue to live in overcrowded camps: 23 in the West Bank, 8 in Gaza, and another 37 in neighboring Arab countries. Most of them originate from ethnically cleansed areas that now lie within Israel’s current borders. To this day, they are denied the right of return. Their lands and properties were confiscated and nationalized in order to artificially manufacture a demographic majority for a Jewish ethnonational state.
The Palästina Kampagne invites you to a public discussion accompanied by live music and finger food. Together with the Palestinian NGO Badil, which advocates for the rights of Palestinian refugees and will join live from Bethlehem, we will examine the realities on the ground and critically reflect on how the two-state solution is used in Germany as a fig leaf to preserve the political status quo.
