Join Planetary Listening for an evening celebrating the Swamps & Stars cassette launch. Realised through 2023, Swamps & Stars events brought together artists and researchers from Berlin and beyond to explore the vibrations between swampy spaces and the cosmos. Through sound, performance, and participatory happenings we listened and learned together modes of Planetary Listening.
Alongside the cassette launch, this evening event will feature two sound performances.
Planetary Listening artist and curator Kat Austen will present their new work Coexisting in a post-Petro Wilderness, an experimental musical exploration of the Wild. Faced with dramatic changes to biodiversity and climate, what are the sounds of modern wilderness? Austen’s performance searches for new forms of wilderness through the use of field recordings from liminal spaces and new materialities in Europe and Asia, alongside composition and improvisation based on speculative hybrid sonic futures and the leveraging of generative AI.
Artist Jasmina Al'Qaisi’s radio-based performance ~ ~ ° word of ~ ° ~ ~ draws on research from the island of Koos and the Karrendorf meadows to inspiring plurality of peatlands.
Curated and organized by Kat Austen, Kate Donovan, and Michelle-Marie Letelier on behalf of Planetary Listening
Kat Austen is a person. She makes performances and installations that orient around sound and address topics of urgent societal and environmental importance.
Jasmina Al'Qaisi is a writer for voice and paper appearing sometimes in other forms such as a walking scientist, the schnelle musikalische hilfe service, or as the only agent for the self-entitled-self-entitlement-office.
