The workshop is part of the series "The picture book journey" and is a collaboration with a school class.
Led by artist Sofia Burchardi, this creative workshop is designed for school classes and is divided into two sessions. Taking place in the spaces of the Spore Initiative, it utilizes the power of oral storytelling, reading, and imagination through literature.
Sofia Burchardi will work with Class 1A from the Karl-Weise-Schule in Neukölln to explore new narratives in word and image through selected contemporary picture books.
The children will be invited to immerse themselves in the world of images through playful and creative activities, such as body movement through dance, painting with natural pigments, and personal storytelling.
The class will work with the following picture book:
Eye Spy: Indigenous Art / Likla Lall / Cheenti (Ektara Publishing House, India.)
This picture book introduces young readers to the magic of folk and tribal art traditions in India. It explores the origins, stories, forms, techniques, processes, and artists of eight indigenous Indian painting traditions, layer by layer, enticing readers to contemplate, investigate, and create.
How do we, as readers in Germany, perceive these stories and images? Can we recognize similarities? Do painting, music, or dance also play a role in our daily lives? In what ways?
