In southern Papua, the Indonesian government plans to convert 2.5 million hectares of rainforest into industrial plantations under a so-called National Strategic Project (Proyek Strategis Nasional, PSN). Under the banners of "food security" and "energy transition," it is pushing forward one of the largest forest conversion projects in modern history, displacing Indigenous communities from their lands to make way for palm oil and sugarcane.
Pig Feast: Colonialism in Our Time

Pig Feast follows Indigenous communities whose lands the project threatens and destroys, and documents their resistance. In Boven Digoel, for example, a red cross movement has erected more than 1,800 crosses to resist the presence of corporations and the military, physically and spiritually. The film exposes the networks of state elites, corporations, the military, and religious actors behind the PSN Merauke project, showing how national and international interests are pursued at the expense of Indigenous lives and livelihoods. Going beyond a single project, Pig Feast paints a powerful picture of Papua's political ecology and reveals how colonial structures continue to shape the region today. It was made by a coalition of Watchdoc Documentary, Ekspedisi Indonesia Baru, Jubi Media, Yayasan Pusaka Bentala Rakyat, Greenpeace Indonesia, and LBH Papua Merauke.
