It’s the position of G.A.G. that Germany is once again standing on the side of genocide: politicians, the media, businesses, and society at large have actively supported this or tacitly allowed it to happen. Gaza has bitterly demonstrated that contrary to widespread self-perception, we have not learned to recognize the early stages of genocide and to loudly and resolutely stand up for universal human rights.
It is therefore our responsibility to confront our double standards: they have enabled selective empathy, responsibility, perception, and criticism of crimes against humanity. As part of a democracy, we are responsible for applying the necessary pressure to resist when politicians act against the will of the majority and break our most important promise: Nie Wieder Genozid (never again genocide).
This event aims to acknowledge the depth of this failure without dwelling on new shame. Rather, the aim is to learn from our mistakes.
Now more than ever, it is important to take responsibility for the past and learn together how we in Germany can finally establish a culture of standing up against injustice. Only by doing so will we be able to contribute to social processes against oppression, racism, occupation, apartheid, and blockades toward a collective liberation.
In a panel discussion and an interactive plenary session, we will therefore not only look back, but above all ask the following questions:
— How can we learn from our failures?
— What does genuine responsibility of individuals and collectives towards those affected and in day-to-day life look like?
— What are the next steps to actively take responsibility now?
Come along and bring people who feel responsible for German history, want to get involved, or are already politically engaged.
