“Unhappy the country that needs heroes”, says Bertolt Brecht. Have heroes* heroines become superfluous? Or do we need heroes*heroines as points of refuge and guidance in these difficult times? If so, who are these heroes*heroines?
For the past year, 6-12-year-old foster children from Berlin have been meeting at regular intervals in Spore’s studio to explore the current concept of heroes*heroines and questions of community through artistic research practices. What would it be like to communicate with plants, use tentacle arms to get villains out of the way and be able to speak all languages? In an untamed search for our own stories and visions of a world that takes Dadaist paths and creates concrete proposals for connection and solidarity, we want to invite you to take up the children's playfulness and perspectives and carry them forward. Featuring films, a performance and workshops – we explore how memory can be preserved and how we can evolve visions for a shared future.

Workshop 1
Zine Workshop: Images of a new love
In this workshop we will create a zine about heroes*heroines together, with all your collages, snippets of thoughts and images in your head. Because one thing is clear: heroes*heroines never create themselves alone. They are created by everyone's thoughts and they have support. They live alongside and within us as caregivers, nurses, supporters, gardeners and friends. Even as crocodiles. They see the world as a place for all living beings, no matter where they come from or how needy they are. At the end of the workshop, we will put together all the images that have emerged and create a new narrative about heroes/ heroines who don't close themselves off but break free. And find out what the crocodile is all about.
Workshop 2
Kneading instead of waiting: shaping heroes*heroines
As humans, we are always looking for ways to be the person we can admire. We all want to be heroes*heroines. Whether this is possible always depends on whether we are self-determined, whether we can listen, whether we are listened to, whether we intervene, change and have the time and capacity to empower young people. In the existing structures of social work - which are characterized by a lack of time, scarce resources and aggravating bureaucracy - this is not always easy. That is why it is all the more important to imagine the person we want to be. Knead your thoughts, make them audible and visible: Who do you want to be? What are you holding on to? And who and what do you need to support each other?
Workshop 3
Crafting a life: Creating memories
Almost all heroes*heroines embark on a complicated search for their past. Like most heroes*heroines from literature and pop culture, foster children who don't grow up with their families of origin have a similar experience. Gaps and ruptures occur, information is lost or never reaches them. In this workshop, we want to explore the importance of memory in youth welfare. How can we record what happened without imposing a story on people? How is it possible to determine, record and strengthen the entirety of the characteristics and events that define us? In order to question this, we will try out memory as an action: As an active activity that we can only do together.
