During this cooking session, Sandra Bello will share her story. A member of the Black women’s movement, she hails from the favelas of Brazil and served as vice president of the first National Gathering of Black Women.
Upon arriving in Berlin, she gained firsthand experience with concepts such as "Brazilianness" and racism while living in exile, as a migrant, and as a refugee. In this workshop and collective cooking session, she will discuss how Black women are rendered invisible and stereotyped and how their culture, such as samba, is commonly devalued.
These experiences led Sandra Bello to commit to raising the visibility of the Afro-Brazilian population. Together with fellow activists, she began actively shaping the term "Afro-Brazilians" through initiatives such as the Brazilian Afro-collectives "Muvuca" and "Alafia." Inspired by the spirit of the Quilombolas, Sandra’s work aims to break down stereotypes and promote the visibility of people of African descent. From this perspective, she will share stories and cook dishes centered around the tabuleiro.
