In times of crisis and displacement, how do community, memory, and the defense of life endure? What practices of care and resistance are woven into everyday life?
Fandango and Celebration – for the networks that sustain us invites you to explore these questions through community experiences from Mexico in dialogue with Berlin. Curated by Melina Castillo, whose work connects artistic practice with political and cultural education, the evening is developed together with Silvana Almaraz, who coordinates the Berlin–Mexico City Tandem of the Sister Cities in Action project. Over the course of the evening, we will share food, stories, images, music, and conversations about migration, solidarity, and collective care.
The program opens with 15 Years of Casa Tochan: Resistance, Collectivity and Struggle, a screening of a commemorative video, followed by a conversation with Valeria Peña Beltrán, a member of Casa Tochan and coordinator of the Sister Cities in Action project in Mexico City. Casa Tochan is a community home that has accompanied migrants and refugees for the past fifteen years.
The evening closes with an open Son Jarocho fandango. More than a concert, the fandango is a space to gather, sing, dance, and build community. Together with musicians from Mexico (Pablo Emiliano, Nirl Cano, Vico Díaz & Jorge Caloyero), we will celebrate the ties of solidarity and the shared struggles that connect Mexico and Berlin.
