The Aesthetics of Resistance – Variations on Peter Weiss, an audio play composed by Fabian Saul, is not conceived as a retrospective on a canonical text, but as an attempt to read it as a handbook for the present - for its fractures, its pressures, and the ongoing struggles over memory, language, and political resistance.
Tanasgol Sabbagh and Fabian Saul perform the play live, and will discuss it afterwards with Dotan-Dreyfus, Alice Hasters and Sandra Hetzl. Section by section, the text is read, interrupted, and examined together:
What can be learned from it today?
How might it be understood as a handbook for the present?
How can a critique of performative protest aesthetics lead to more concrete, effective forms of political action?
Following the performance, these questions are explored in greater detail in a conversation between some of the participating artists.
This independent live event by Literaturhaus Neukölln at Spore Initiative is based on Fabian Saul's radio play, which was developed after Peter Weiss's novel and originally produced for Deutschlandfunk in 2025.
