For the third time the Samira al-Khalil Association is awarding three female activists whose work and trajectory embody solidarity with the struggle to end violations of fundamental rights and freedoms in the Arab and Mediterranean regions.
The award ceremony is open to the general public with an interest in the Arab and Mediterranean regions and in the ongoing struggle for civil rights, with a special focus on gender equality.
The event will open with remarks by Yassin al-Haj Saleh, the husband of Samira al-Khalil. Together with Razan Zaitouneh, Wael Hamada and Nazem Hammadi Samira was abducted on December 9, 2013, most likely by the Islamist group Jaysh al-Islam, according to Human Rights Watch. Yassin al-Haj Saleh is also the spokesperson of the Samira al-Khalil Association.
The three laureates of this year’s prize will then address the audience and share their perspectives.
The evening will conclude with a concert by the Arab musician Abdul-Wahab Kayyali.
The event is also a celebration of Samira al-Khalil’s spirit and a tribute to her, as well as to her courageous comrades in struggle: Razan Zaitouneh, Wael Hamada and Nazem Hammadi.
The award ceremony is supported by the MENA Prison Forum and medico international.
