This event will be a panel discussion about Palestinian history and its relationship to the present moment with a focus on transformations in its ecological and built environment. By bringing together panelists with a broad range of expertise on the region’s history of colonialism and imperialism, the discussion will consider how different historical actors have worked to variously preserve, revise, or destroy historical narratives. How has this been done explicitly through remaking landscapes and urban space and the archives that hold these histories? How do these longer processes interact with the violent moments of erasure that also occur? We will discuss how these attempts to variously excise or preserve the region’s history can be seen in environmental transformations of the region as well as in the everyday struggles of urban life and culture. The panel will also leave time for audience Q & A.
Panel Speakers: Himmat Zoubi, Tamar Novick, Dotan Halevy, and Chris Whitman
Panel Host: Emily Brownell
