ANTI COLONIAL FILM NIGHT

We are delighted to announce a second film of the Anti-Colonial Film Night at Spore Initiative, a screening series by the Jewish Bund and AL.Berlin. 

The Ararat Collective will serve food before the screening. 
A conversation with the filmmaker Fadi Adleh and Lama El Khatib will follow the screening.

Moving through the Beirut suburbs and the Lebanese mountains, the film explores the mechanisms behind curfews imposed on Syrian male workers as a way of understanding how Lebanon arrived at its present-day context for Syrians—one marked by deportations, incitement, and community-level violence against refugees.

We are organising this event to raise funds for Lebanon Solidarity Collective,  a grassroots collective supporting communities most affected by the ongoing destruction across South Lebanon. The project focuses on bioremediation and regeneration, working with farmers and land stewards to restore poisoned soils, reclaim food sovereignty, and heal lands devastated by war and toxic contamination. 

Anti-Colonial Film Night  

Organised by the Jewish Bund in collaboration with AL.Berlin.

Together, we gather to watch, discuss, and engage in exchange about anti-colonial films from across geographies and the revolutionary struggles they represent. Each screening features one or more local political groups or activists, who will lead the conversation, linking the film’s themes to our concrete realities and struggles today. These discussions bring together diverse anti-colonial perspectives at this shared juncture of empire and capital. We envision these encounters as spaces for collective learning, questioning, and reflection — and as invitations to engage more deeply by supporting the work, actions, and initiatives of the participating groups.

Language accessibility  

Films will be shown in their original languages with subtitles whenever available. Discussions will be held in English, with the option of simultaneous interpretation if required.

Walid Abdelnour is a Lebanese video artist and documentary filmmaker living in Berlin.

Fadi Adleh is an independent researcher, humanitarian practitioner and an author and illustrator of books.

Lama El Khatib is a writer and cultural worker.
