A Pocket of Quiet is an inclusive, unplugged community gathering that transforms reading and storytelling into a collective practice of care and solidarity. Leaving our phones and committments behind for a bit, it is thought of as a two-hour sanctuary that welcomes all individuals, regardless of background or literary experience.
This gathering is open to anyone who has experienced loss, longing, or absence, or who is currently navigating challenging personal realities. Participants are welcome to read a personal letter, share a poem, present a newly discovered feminist text, or speak directly about their experiences—even without bringing a written piece. Equally, those who wish to simply sit back, listen, and find comfort in the voices of others are warmly invited.
The environment operates without literary criticism, judgment, or formal protocols; participants are completely free to step outside, take a break, or leave at any point during the session without explanation or apology.
Recognizing the realities of busy schedules, distance, and displacement, the initiative includes also a proxy reading option: individuals unable to attend in person can submit their texts in advance to be read on their behalf in English, German, Persian, Arabic, or Spanish.
You can send your texts to this email address: apocketofquiet@proton.me (Please also contact us here if you have any questions).
Whether sharing a personal story or holding space for someone else, every voice enriches this living sanctuary.
A Pocket of Quiet is organized and hosted by Laila.
