Around 30 plant species with healing properties grow in the meadow of the Spore Garden. In this workshop, we want to collect some of them and play with names other than the usual ones. The practice of naming plants is probably due to the discovery of their useful properties. Plants used for medicinal, material or symbolic purposes first found their way into human language. This practice of naming and establishing relationships with plants is very different from the scientific binomial system of plant names, which aims to organize all existing species into an abstract system. Therefore, the type of language used reflects the way we relate to and interact with plants.
In the workshop we will search the garden and adjacent green spaces for medicinal plants, collect individual specimens, press them into a herbarium and write experimental plant descriptions using the knowledge gained from common plant names and older European medical naming systems instead of Latin nomenclature.
The Workshop can be attended by 12 participants.
This Workshop is part of the Planting Communities series.
