Germany aims to become "climate neutral" by 2045, planning to absorb as much carbon as it emits. To achieve this goal, countries of the Global North are launching billion-dollar projects in the field of renewable energy—often at the expense of the Global South. These efforts lead to resource extraction, land conflicts, and human rights violations, while once again cementing neo-colonial dependencies and structural power imbalances, now under the guise of a "green" agenda.
In our panel discussion, “Covered in Green: Climate Action at the Expense of the Global South”, which we will host on November 23, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Auditorium of Spore Initiative, we aim not only to discuss these injustices but also to develop solutions and new narratives to counter the neo-colonial dynamics in climate action projects. Additionally, we will talk about how to create a more socially just energy transition that better integrates human rights.
