Visual Poems in the Garden
Jasmina Al-Qaisi (aka Earth) + Mikhail Lylov (aka Worm)
Registration Deadline: July 14th 2024
A moment in the garden.
You are what grows,
said the bush rambler to the bumble bee in
cip-ciribzzzzzzzz.
Floooup
dragged the slug a lineeeeee of glitter over the leaf.
Simultaneously,
a beetle fell off a leaf
in what we may think was laughter.
Environment is made of all the multispecies participants working together. As you walk into the garden there is a lot going on among its inhabitants. We, people, hardly notice or understand most of it, and we have poetry and imagination for zooming in and out to reveal the common work.
If you are a poet you garden words and if you are a gardener you plant the greens. Seeds and words grow with nurture, moisture, pollinators and other conditions. Including patience, curiosity and experimentation too. We will spend four days together and become poets and gardeners, who work on a common ground with what is already there.
The goal will be to translate our experiences into books of visual poetry made of words, dried plants, natural colours and seeds.
In the workshop we will
one Cook words and vegetables until we arrive at a common garden poetry
two Squeeze words in sentences and ingredients into potions
three Draw nutritious thoughts with water and with berry juice
seven Wrapping garden skills and vegetables in leaves
In other words, we will observe the life of the garden, listen to the stories of the garden creatures, do experiments with water and plants, harvest vegetables from the garden and cook in the outdoor kitchen.
