We come together, as bodies made Black/African through racialisation, to share around the losses we have experienced across ‘long modernity’, knowing that grief shared is an unburdening and enables us to keep on moving, harvesting the good where we can and supporting each other, finding wisdom in the gleanings.
For the longest of times, blackened bodies have been carriers of loss. Loss through separation; loss through crossings; loss through forcings; loss through cuttings, loss through disappearances; loss through disconnections and one of the weightiest losses to bear has been the loss of the ability to determine how to grieve for our losses.
We offer a grieving space. We acknowledge the multiple expressions of the sensuality of our bodies, and we mourn what has become embedded within them. This moves us to be attentive of each and every articulation of the life within us – seeking to attend to its hunger for real nourishment.
During the workshop, we will move, we will chant, we will bring our whole selves and re-experience nourishment for our bodies, and the bodies of other worlds. We will reflect our thoughts and then we will share yam together in a cultural feasting.
You are welcome if you:
- identify as a member of the African diaspora wherever you are presently located.
- Are active in ‘for us and by us’ movements or initiatives
- Welcome the opportunity to move below the surface, away from the appearances of things and connect in the depths of conscious and embodied reasoning
- Please complete this form to let us know why you feel this event is for you and how you can pass on our message.
