We will look at  authors from the Global South to review and explore notions of oppression, revolution as a daily form of care, as well as the privilege and responsibility inherent in the task of the artist and researcher. We will do thinking exercises by manually handling the shrub, achiote, as an act to warm up the word with our hands while deepening the dialogue. This achiote will later be used to create a collective graphic piece.

We use a methodology inspired by the way mirror neurons function during empathy. These neurons go through four stages: observation, listening, internalization, and reaction. Our workshop mirrors this process. Each session is structured around these four stages as a way to explore and develop non-oppressive practices in our artistic work.

Through this, we hope to reach a collective notion of practices in line with the values needed for emancipation.
Come, listen and  counteract the dynamics of domination.

Facilitated by Carmen Caro
A Colombian interdisciplinary artist and human rights strategist specializing in non-oppressive methodologies, territory and climate justice, using art as a tool for research, advocacy and collective care. Her practice is based on listening as a political act, supporting grassroots resistance in Colombia, Guatemala and Palestine.
