This workshop with BAUFACHFRAU Berlin e.V. is aimed at participants with an interest in organic building materials and vernacular building techniques. It will explore and apply various earth building techniques, including straw light earth, rammed earth, earth wrapping techniques, and the making and masonry of adobe bricks.
Clay is a good example of a sustainable building material with a minimal environmental footprint because it is directly available almost everywhere in the world - in the earth we live on. At the same time, clay is a building material with a global building tradition that goes back thousands of years. Used with adapted techniques, it also has excellent properties in relation to today's requirements for climate-friendly buildings.
As a result of the workshop, small transportable clay showcases will be created and exhibited in the Spore building. Participants can engage with the material further trhoughout the year: Workshops led by different practitioners will teach different clay plastering and design techniques, creating connections between different cultures of clay building.
