Sharing Bread, Practicing Solidarity is an invitation to a dinner with Alessandra Pomarico and Nikolay Oleynikov, co-curators of Free Home University (FHU) located in the south of Italy. A convivial moment to share food and stories from their work with communities of struggle and practice such as Casa delle Agriculture, Diritti a Sud, Salento KM Zero, Seminazioni. Together they will discuss questions of food sovereignty, defence of territories, and politics of resistance, in solidarity with those caring for the land. In the cooking session, delicious recipes will be prepared with fair produce from the FHU farming neighbours and comrades.

After dinner, the conversation continues with Spore Initiative’s artistic director Antonia Alampi, who is hosting the series Shaping the System: Behind the Scenes of Cultural Work. Alessandra and Nikolay will share more in the curatorial talk In the Cracks of Learning. Free Home University: Radical Pedagogy, Art, and Communities in Struggle.
FHU was founded in 2014 in Salento, Italy. It emerged as an initiative of local and international artists, thinkers, educators, and curators aiming to explore alternative forms of learning and communal living. FHU is a pedagogical and artistic experiment grounded in collective experience, self-organization, and coalition-based learning methods. It closely collaborates with communities engaged in social struggles, including LGBTQIA+ groups, migrants, refugees, and land rights activists. Through intensive and self-directed approaches, the study themes and methods emerge organically from the participants' practices. These inquiries are grounded in both local and global contexts and are aligned with communities engaged in existence and transformation.
