The workshop Berlin on Foot – Environment and Social Justice in Public Spaces will take place on July 1 and 3 in cooperation with Herder Gymnasium and as part of Spore’s Picture Book Journey project.
This workshop will explore ways in which Berlin can become a fairer, more climate-resilient and resource-efficient city.
Through picture books and a walk through Berlin’s Neukölln district, participants will examine topics such as new constructions and renovations, land use, heat stress, noise, traffic, green spaces, social inequality and displacement.
At various locations in Berlin, participants will examine the visible problems in the urban landscape and the solutions that are already being tested. The process makes it clear that urban development is not only a structural task, but also a social and ecological one.
Finally, participants will develop their own ideas on how public spaces can be made more liveable, sustainable and inclusive.
Since 2015, We-Building e.V. has been working on construction projects in development cooperation, and since 2018, as an educational partner in Berlin schools. Drawing on this experience, the association offers insights into the importance of the construction and building sector for sustainable development in this workshop. Using various methods, they also explore how these complex interrelationships can be made accessible to students, providing a framework for creativity and visions of the future.
