Join us for an evening of film, conversation and community that sheds light on the politics of silencing in Balochistan and the resilience of the Baloch people in the face of ongoing injustice.
The event also honors the life and tireless advocacy of Sabeen Mahmud who created space for open dialogue despite the risks. The evening will begin with a film screening, followed by a panel discussion featuring members of the Baloch and Pakistani diaspora, along with others engaged in the still ongoing struggle in Balochistan.
A decade after the assassination of Sabeen Mahmud, we revisit the documentary After Sabeen to reflect on her remarkable life, lasting impression, and the profound cost of speaking out. Director Schokofeh Kamiz accompanies Sabeen’s mother and friends to create a heartfelt portrait of a woman she never met.
We’ll end the evening with a buffet and live music by Baloch artists—an opportunity to come together in reflection, conversation, and cultural celebration.
Film director @schokofehkamiz is a research-based filmmaker and video artist based in berlin.
Panelists include: Farhád Baloch, a grassroots activist and organizer living in exile, and Abdullah Abbas, an activist, human rights defender and Executive Director of Human Rights Council of Balochistan. Dr. Sadia Bajwa who is a historian of modern South Asia will moderate the panel.
Musical performance by Balach Dost.
