A Stitch Out of Time features images of her embroidery on throwaway plastic bags, typically used for disposing waste. The book plays with two powerful themes: environmental degradation symbolised by the ubiquitous take-over of our surroundings by plastic and the slow time of creation, whether of a tree, or a piece of embroidery. A Stitch Out of Time is a result of collaborative artisanal processes: embroidery, tailoring, screen-printing and bookbinding.

During this two-day session, the school class will research endangered plants from Berlin and its surroundings with the help of books from the Spore library. How do plants in Berlin relate to endangered plants in Chennai? We’ll be visiting the garden, and exploring the neighbourhood. Anaïs Beaulieu will guide teachers and students through creating their own embroidered plastic bag, thus engaging with this slow process.
