VideoClub is happy to invite you to its upcoming edition “There’s not cloud (there is always someone else’s computer)”.
☆ In this edition we are looking for videos that critically engage with technology, the non-neutrality of algorithms, and the idea of "digital battlefi elds." We also want to challenge the logic of consumption-devastation and refl ect on how the "digital," as stated by Code Ecologies - School for Poetic Computation, is falsely perceived as virtual or non-physical. In reality, "cloud computing" does not take place in the clouds: there are massive data centers, cooling facilities, fi ber optic cables, mineral extraction, electronic waste, and other physical infrastructures. On the other side of the arms race for faster and smarter AI, there is a lack of understanding and responsibility—whether individual or organizational—about how our use of machine learning, blockchain, or "whatever is new" aff ects the Earth.
Through a curatorial approach that celebrates water, life and its diversity, our goal is to amplify new voices, perspectives, and poetics that challenge the Western narrative in a sensory journey that connects us with nature and the politics of care. ☆
This event will feature an open call inviting submissions of videos related to the theme “There’s No Cloud (There Is Always Someone Else’s Computer).”
