VideoClub World präsentiert: "Keine Cloud – immer nur der Computer von jemand anderem"

In dieser Ausgabe sucht VideoClub nach Videos, die sich kritisch mit Technologie, der Nicht-Neutralität von Algorithmen und dem Konzept der „digitalen Schlachtfelder“ auseinandersetzen. Wir wollen zudem die Logik von Konsum und Zerstörung hinterfragen und reflektieren, wie das „Digitale“, wie von Code Ecologies – School for Poetic Computation betont, fälschlicherweise als virtuell oder immateriell wahrgenommen wird. In Wirklichkeit findet „Cloud Computing“ nicht in Wolken statt: Es gibt riesige Rechenzentren, Kühlsysteme, Glasfaserkabel, Rohstoffabbau, Elektroschrott und andere physische Infrastrukturen.

Auf der anderen Seite des Wettrüstens um schnellere und intelligentere KI herrscht ein Mangel an Verständnis und Verantwortung – sei es auf individueller oder organisatorischer Ebene – darüber, wie unser Einsatz von maschinellem Lernen, Blockchain oder „was auch immer neu ist“ die Erde beeinflusst.

Durch einen kuratorischen Ansatz, der Wasser, Leben und seine Vielfalt feiert, ist es unser Ziel, neue Stimmen, Perspektiven und Poetik zu verstärken, die die westliche Erzählung herausfordern – in einer sinnlichen Reise, die uns mit der Natur und der Politik der Fürsorge verbindet. ☆

This event will feature an open call inviting submissions of videos related to the theme “There’s No Cloud (There Is Always Someone Else’s Computer).”

No registration is required to attend the screening. The screening will be donation-based, with suggested contributions between 5 to 10 euros to support the platform and the artists.

Deadline for submissions and registration (to participate): August 5, 2025.

Requirements for participation (video submissions):

● Open to artists and filmmakers whose work critically engages with technology, ecology, and digital infrastructures.

● The videos must be DIY, without brands or big production companies involved.

● All kinds of videos are welcome: video performances, animations, documentaries, music videos, etc.

● Preferably, the title and artist's name should be visible in the video.

● Maximum duration: 15 minutes.

● English subtitles are required; please ensure they are readable (size, contrast).

● Maximum 2 videos per artist can be submitted.

● Submission of a video link or file along with a short artist statement is mandatory.

● Participants must agree to the event’s code of conduct. To submit your work, please fill out the open call form.
