In this Open Reading Group session, we will delve into "The Mushroom at the End of the World: On the Possibility of Life in Capitalist Ruins" by anthropologist Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing.
The Mushroom at the End of the World: On the Possibility of Life in Capitalist RuinsBringing together stories, knowledge, and diverse landscapes, the book traces the journey of the Matsutake mushroom—from an ordinary fungus to a highly valued global commodity. Through this exploration, Tsing delves into themes of capitalist destruction and collaborative survival, showing how life endures amidst precarity and ruin. Together, we will reflect on what we can learn from a mushroom about resilience, interdependence, and the entangled scales of existence in multispecies landscapes.
