As plants evolved seeds to reduce their dependency on water, many forms of life evolved to use and depend on these seeds. Among them are people with their agricultures. Can we really imagine how the planet would sustain its people without major grains, millet and sorghum, pulses, and soybeans?
Yet, seeds aren’t always just food; they are also storytellers, speaking in the languages of nature’s evolution and human cultures. Holding a seed in your hand is an opportunity to tell the story of the plant you hope to germinate, of the person who gave you the seed, and of the culture that valued the plant which produced the seed you hold.
We propose to gather in the Spore Garden to share seeds and seed stories, weaving a conversation around the narratives of seeds in our everyday lives.
Please bring some seeds to share and swap with other participants. In the practical part of the workshop, we will gather and prepare seeds for storage from plants that can be used as auxiliary foods or sources of medicine.
