People around the world have very different relationships with nature. Many Indigenous cultures see nature as sacred and alive - rivers, forests and animals are ancestors or spirits. In contrast, Western traditions have often seen nature as separate from humans, a resource to be exploited. But this is changing as more people seek to reconnect with the natural world. These global narratives show that nature is more than just the environment - it is a relationship we shape through stories, values and choices.
Based on contemporary picture books with different narratives about nature, artist Elisa Bauer will explore the possibilities of alternative narratives through visual language in a workshop with school children in the Spore Initiative spaces: garden, studio. Through aesthetics, experimentation and seeing, the children will share and experience new narratives through picture books.
Closed event with a school class.
