Join us as we come together to watch and discuss anti-colonial films from around the world and the revolutionary struggles they represent.

Each screening features one or more local political groups or activists, who will lead the discussion by linking the themes of the film to our current realities and struggles. These discussions will bring together diverse anti-colonial perspectives at this shared juncture of empire and capital. We envisage these encounters as spaces for collective learning, questioning and reflection, and as an invitation to engage more deeply by supporting the participating groups’ work, actions and initiatives.

Over five years, Writing Hawa follows three generations of Hazara women in Afghanistan.  Director Najiba Noori documents her mother Hawa learning to read at age 52, her textile business, and her rescue of granddaughter Zahra. Together in Kabul, they dream of the future until the Taliban takeover forces Zahra back to her village and sends Najiba into exile. From there, she helps Hawa continue the fight.

AfgActivistCollective will provide insights into the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, as well as the catastrophic situation at its borders and beyond.

We (the organizers) are collecting donations to evacuate comrades’ families from Pakistan, a country that has violently deported people from Afghanistan over the last two years. We are raising funds to support their relocation.
