The Amazon forest is facing drastic changes in its climate. Recent scientific findings suggest a tipping point is near, with devastating consequences for all life.

A growing movement of young female Indigenous artists and activists is rising to defend their culture and the forest they call home. At the forefront of this movement is Rita Huni Kuin, a representative of the Huni Kuin people from Acre in the Brazilian Amazon.

Rita builds bridges between her community’s traditional way of life and what many Amazonians call the "people of the commodities":—those from the globalized Western world. A co-founder of the artists’ collective MAHKU, Rita has exhibited her work at major venues, including the 2024 Venice Biennale and the 2023 Museu de Arte Moderna in São Paulo.

The evening will open with a traditional Huni Kuin ceremony and music, setting the tone for a celebration of culture, resilience, and global connection.
