The workshop gives an insight into the practices of the Ancestral House Janeraka–Belé, a space for resistance and strengthening of the ancestral connections of the Awaeté people, of the Xingu. Only 59 people of the tribe had survived the first contact 50 years ago, facing ongoing cultural and environmental racism. The Ancestral House is a place of coexistence, active and empathetic listening, assistance and social mediation in accessing the rights of individuals and families of forest peoples such as ribeirinhos (people that live alongside rivers), quilombolas (Black resistance communities) and Indigenous people who face ethnocidal practices and cultural and environmental racism. Time’i Assurini  and Carla Romano will present their practices of cultural regeneration and decolonization, which include ethnobotany, ethnomusicology, bioarchitecture, territorial protection, and ethnobotany. As an example of these cultural practices we will discuss the publication “Uyra Maraka Kauyrau’upy: cantos dos jovens pássaros guerreiros”. This book presents a set of songs about birds and their relationship with cosmology, the environment, spirituality and other socio-cultural configurations of the Awaete people.
