The day of Armenian rugs is aiming to give attention to the rich history of the Armenian rug, its specifics and the appropriation of it from the Ottoman Empire. The workshop is going to focus on the importance of Armenian rugs as part of the culture, society and politics of Armenians.
Followingly, we are planning to wash rugs and carpets together at Spore’s Garden as an act of reconnecting with our roots and beautiful traditions in diaspora.
We will end the evening with a screening of Sergei Parajanov’s “The Color of Pomegranate” (1969).

Presentation on the history, specifics and political dimensions of Armenian rugs in Ottoman Empire and beyond.
