Immerse yourself in the dialog to learn more about rights of nature, water protection, forms of activism, caring and regenerative strategies for water bodies.
The radio show is based on a recording of a public conversation in the Wasserspiegel - Water Bodies exhibition space at Spore Initiative Berlin in the fall in collaboration with Markus Stein (Cashmere Radio). Together with Jakob Kukula (Spree.Berlin), Emmanuel Schlichter (Netzwerk Rechte der Natur), and Catharina Caspari (lawyer and researcher at the Institute for Energy, Environmental and Maritime Law (IfEUS) at the University of Greifswald) and moderated by Lotta Schäfer (Spore Initiative), we think out loud about how a river like the Spree could become a legal body. In addition to questions about the worldview in which ecosystems can claim their rights on an equal footing with people or companies, possible practical approaches are being negotiated:
- How can personified nature, through laws, myths and stories, help us develop a healthy emotional and legal connection to the river ecosystem?
- How can this help us to protect and care for these ecosystems differently?
- Who and what is needed for this?
- What does this mean for the creatures in and around the Spree?
- Do we need rights for nature or is the power of existing laws not being sufficiently utilized?
„Fluid Rights - Fliessende Rechte“ emerged from the work of the “Confluence of European Water Bodies” network and shows how diverse the needs and solutions of Europe's rivers are. The network uses artistic and discursive formats to negotiate the legal, cultural and political representation of water bodies in Europe.
The radio show will also be played on Friday, January 24th at the Spore house.
