Maestro Camilo Mina and Jota Ramos will give a hip-hop workshop based on Pacific-Colombian rhythms as well as instructions on rap composition rooted in Afro-Colombian traditions.
The group Haga Que Pase was founded in 2010 to use marimba, the fusion of hip hop with Pacific rhythms, as an instrument to defend the right to a better quality of life for all, especially for Afro-descendant communities. In their songs they address gender violence, peasant life and the relation to nature. At the same time the group gives hip hop and theatre workshops, seeking to help young people understand the problems of their communities and become agents of change.
With the song ‘Juntos ganamos’ from 2017, where Haga Que Pase portrayed the struggle of the Bonaverense community during the 21-day strike demanding better living conditions, with which the group won the Fair Play Anticorruption award in Denmark. Death threats by paramilitary groups forced the family of the founders Jota Ramos and Carol Hurtado into exile. After coming back to Colombia, they continue with their work of fusing music, activism, and community organizing around social and environmental issues.
