The forests of Queuñas (Polylepis sp.) in the Andean Jujuy, Argentina offers an example for a unique bond with Indigenous inhabitants. Today, these ecosystems and the ancestral culture that is woven through it are endangered by extractivist projects, especially gold and lithium mining.

Rocío Julián is an activist and defender of women's rights, indigenous peoples' rights and the preservation of Andean ecosystems in Jujuy, Argentina. Her comprehensive training in Natural, Social and Human Sciences merges with her roots as an indigenous woman. She combines her academic practice and her indigenous knowledge as an ethnobiologist. She actively seeks to contribute to and support sustainable development projects based on conscious and socially committed perspectives.
