What kind of interconnected stories do we discover in today's picture books?
What ideas shape our perceptions when we read and look at picture books? How can picture books be used to create an environment for creative discussion and open dialogue?
Spore Initiative has been collaborating with partners from the educational and publishing field, both in Germany and in the Global South, (Grundschule der Künste, UdK, Berlin, Baobab Books, Switzerland, House of Anansi, Canada, Art 1st publishing, India, among others) in order to create a publication for educators that encourages the use of picture books with groups of all ages.
A Picture Book Journey highlights five picture books from different regions around the world.
The aim is to get closer to unfamiliar narratives, including visual narratives, and to reflect upon perceptions and perspectives through shared reading experiences. The making and the publication of A Picture Book Journey is only one part of the collaborative project. It is followed by an educational program, all throughout 2025, which includes teacher trainings and workshops for school classes.
